Mural

College Bloom Mural Expands Art on Campus

MVC School of Visual and Performing Arts and the college Art Gallery received a Century Circle Grant through the RCCD Foundation to support the production of a campus art mural at the College. Rosy Cortez, a painter, muralist, and a College alumna, completed MVC in Bloom, which covers the walkways leading up to the Humanities Building.

The School of Public Safety at the Ben Clark Education Center welcomed a 14,135-square-foot, single-story facility which houses classrooms and administration offices. The facility became the College’s first permanent facility at the Center.

Apprenticeship

The US Department of Labor awarded Riverside Community College District nearly $5 million to support the region’s LAUNCH Apprenticeship Network and then the US Department of Labor selected Moreno Valley College as an Apprenticeship Ambassador. To further the mission of apprenticeships for the region, Moreno Valley College, along with the city of Moreno Valley, and Riverside and San Bernardino Counties Building and Construction Trades Council AFL-CIO, were co-organizers for the Inland Empire Apprenticeship Expo.

Graduate Participates in Congressional Foster Youth Shadow Day

Xandra Vaughn, a foster-youth student and a graduate of Moreno Valley College, was selected to participate in the state’s Foster Youth Shadow Day. Vaughn and 39 other nationally selected foster youth spent a day shadowing Representative Karen Bass (CA-37) and other representatives.

The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Ceremony has provided thousands of dollars in student scholarships. Meanwhile, the Dolores Huerta and César E. Chávez Scholarship breakfast event, which began in 2014, was developed to honor their legacy and work.

Moreno Valley College's Pitch Contest was won by Denisse Pena Gama, a Veteran student, for her idea to invent a child alert bracelet. The bracelet would notify a parent when a child goes out of range from their parent's watchful sight.

Six Legs Offers Endless Possibilities

The USDA awarded a grant to the University of California, Riverside’s Entomology Department for “agriculturally relevant research.” The research involves students from UCR, and Moreno Valley, Norco and Riverside City colleges. The students have been working to study Pogonomyrmex rugosus ants’ behavior, using environmental clues.
