Ryon Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund

The Riverside Community College District Foundation announced a significant contribution from long-time supporters, Dwight Tate and Katherine Ann Wright, to establish the Luann Marie Ryon Memorial Endowed Scholarship. This scholarship fund is established in honor of Ryon, who passed away in 2022.

While at Riverside City College, Ryon was a remarkable athlete and individual who left an indelible mark on the world of archery, winning a gold medal in the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal.

Ryon, born in Long Beach in 1953, was remembered as a trailblazing athlete who excelled in archery. In addition to winning a gold medal, she set a world record in the 70-meter individual archery competition. Named the Riverside City College Female Athlete in 1975, Ryon was cited through years of competition for being dedicated to her sport and as a class act competitor who left an enduring impact.

This endowed scholarship, supported by a generous donation of $26,250 from Tate and Wright, will provide scholarships to women's track and field students. The donors have also pledged an additional $1,050 annually, starting in the academic year 2023-24, to ensure that scholarships can be awarded immediately while the endowment grows.
