Anthony (Tony) Mwene Musumba, Ph.D., assistant professor of Physics at Riverside City College, was selected for the 2024 Homer L. Dodge Citation for Distinguished Service to the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT). The award recognizes Musumba for his contributions to the association's mission and his dedicated efforts to advance excellence within the two-year college physics community.

 

The citation specifically acknowledges Musumba's work sharing innovative teaching resources, including impactful computational modeling tools for physics, life sciences and astronomy.

 

Musumba, a member of AAPT since 2008, has been involved in various aspects of the association's work. He has served on the Committee on Diversity in Physics and the Committee on Two-Year Colleges. He also contributed to the editorial board of The Physics Teacher. His commitment to forging collaborations across educational levels has earned him praise, with nominators noting significant benefits derived from his initiatives.

 

The Homer L. Dodge Citation for Distinguished Service to AAPT, established in 1953 and renamed in 2012, is presented to members in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the association at the national, sectional, or local level.
